From the moment you arrive, you will start to feel ‘it’. Camp Navarro has a long and storied history dating back thousands of years when local tribes lived here and converged along the river to trade and have ritual and ceremony. Local shaman have acknowledged the areas immense power, not just for humans but also for all living things. Wildlife is abundant, birds soaring and chirping constantly, and of course the diverse and grand trees everywhere. Local tribes eventually moved inland and the area was ‘dormant’ before timber was needed in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thus began the property’ more modern history as a timber camp and then eventually as a Scout camp before becoming a public facility in 2012 for events and festivals and now also for overnight stays.
Camp Navarro is probably unlike any place you have ever experienced unless you went to summer camp and if so, then it will have that ‘feel’. A large main lodge anchors the property with idyllic cabins, seasonal teepees, funky cool three sided adirondacks and open campsites all around the north side of the property. A massive campfire area, open grass plaza and world class amphitheater along with winding dirt roads, and lots of hammocks and contemplative areas complete this part of the property. Cross the river and you immediately are immersed in tranquility with trails meandering up, down and all around by the river and thru redwood, oak, Bay, Cedar, and fir forest. What’s that, an archery range? Pull a few arrows and then continue downstream a few minutes to the nostalgic river rope swing. On your way back, you see a sign for stargazer point where you can enjoy night time gazing but also a easy daytime walk to a perch to look out on the landscape.
We attempt to honor the property’ long history and want to educate our guests about the past and nature in general so you will see signs and other points of interest still in place. The past is important to help guide us into the future. At our core, we are trying to connect you to nature and in doing so, good and simple things will happen and be experienced. The world can often seem crazy and out of control. It is at these times, that nature and places like Camp Navarro can bring some semblance of peace, comfort, grounding and perspective to what really matters. We look forward to sharing our home with you and the joy and beauty that comes from this experience. See you soon….
